Day Boy and Night Girl

Length: 21 min.

Age Recommendation/Content: All Ages

Release: 2025

Synopsis:

Based on the short story by George MacDonald, this hilariously bad 1950s-style B-Movie is both intentionally corny and intelligently insightful, exploring the complex nature of light and dark, flesh and spirit, and how God uses the two to work together. The YC adaptation presents the classic tale as a comic atompunk fusion of the bad sci-fi films and silly beach movies of the late 1950s/early 1960s, featuring an evil scientist conducting a bizarre experiment- a boy who has only been raised in the daylight, and a girl who has only been raised in the night.

One of a series of YC films based on the extraordinary works of classic author/minister George MacDonald! Though You Connection may not agree with all aspects of George MacDonald's personal theology, he was nevertheless a groundbreaking pioneer in Christian fiction and influencer of later Christian writers such as C.S. Lewis, Oswald Chambers, and J.R.R. Tolkien, and we are thrilled to produce updated versions of his works for a brand new audience!

Trivia and Hidden Extras

Atompunk is a creative aesthetic genre that uses the retro-futuristic imagery of the 1950s "Atomic Age"- from domed space helmets and goggles to secret laboratories, the Space Race, etc. It is essentially the imagery from all those low-grade sci-fi B-Movies that used to play at Drive-In theatres, and is part of a longer list of retro-futurist fantasy genres such as steampunk, cyberpunk, dieselpunk, etc.
